- “Let her run to her beloved prince. She will lead us straight to him.”
- — Morgause to Morgana about Gwen[src]
Tracking Spells were spells used to find and follow a person's trail. Some required the use of potions and many appeared to utilize light spells.
Types
Spells
Morgause enchanted a ring with a tracking spell to guide Cenred's men to a secret tunnel beneath the Castle of Fyrien. Morgana placed the ring on a rock near the tunnel's entrance, after which it began to glow and release a column of orange smoke (The Castle of Fyrien).
Merlin tried to use a tracking spell to trace Finna's movements. However, he ultimately found her by following a trail of symbols that she'd burned into tree trunks (The Kindness of Strangers).
Potions
After the Fall of Camelot, Morgause and Morgana tricked Guinevere into drinking a tracking potion so they could follow her to Arthur's hideout. The potion had the appearance of white dust and had to be activated by a verbal spell.
Once activated, the potion traced Gwen's path by conjuring a trail of light. The potion appeared to lose power over time and had to be strengthened with a second spell (The Coming of Arthur).
